This programme is a comprehensive international curriculum delivered in English. It is a demanding two year pre-university course of study with rigorous assessment that leads to external examinations, conducted by the IBO, at the end of Grade 12. Students are equipped with the skills and attitudes necessary for success in higher education and employment. Many universities offer credit points or advanced standing to IBDP students.
The DP pathway is intended mainly for students planning to study in a university overseas or in some select universities/faculties within Indonesia. In many universities, students who have completed the Diploma Programme may be granted advanced standing or credit points towards their final degree. Made up of the three required components, the DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
The three core elements are:
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
Compulsory for all IB Diploma students, is an interdisciplinary study in which students reflect critically about how they know. They must write a 1200-1600 word essay, in English, from a list of 10 questions prescribed by the IBO. They must also present to the class a 10 minute speech on their topic and prepare a self-evaluation report.
Extended Essay (EE)
All IB Diploma students write a 4000 word essay in English that is assessed externally by the IBO. This is an in-depth study based on one of the six subjects. It helps prepare students for university by introducing them to the style of independent research and writing skills expected at this level.
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
CAS provides a counterbalance to the academic programme. It has the goal of educating the whole person and fostering a more compassionate and active citizen. CAS covers a wide range of activities, including the Arts, camps, individual and team sports and community and social service activities. Students must complete CAS during the two-year programme and maintain a journal for recording hours and their reflections on their progress.
